Talks and Lectures

David delivers talks and lectures to a variety of audiences at a wide range of venues throughout the UK and overseas.

He has given regular Gallery Talks as well as lectures at The British Museum, London, and The Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. He has been a frequent guest at literary festivals, including in Cheltenham, Hexham and Oxford, as well as at the biennial Heffers Classics Festival in Cambridge.

David has taught courses for New York's cultural centre, 92NY, and a classical summer school at The University of Cambridge, and now delivers regular lectures for TFED (Transatlantic Forum for Education and Diplomacy), a joint venture organized by The University of North Carolina and King’s College, London.

He also gives regular talks to the members of Goodenough College, and leads Dean’s Seminars to venues such as Athens, Syracuse, Santorini and Carthage.

Lecturing on Tours and Cruises

David has a wide experience of leading tours of Greece and Italy as well as lecturing on cruises of the Mediterranean.

In 2016 he was guest lecturer on The World, the world’s only fully-residential cruise ship, as it sailed from Chania, Crete to Haifa, Israel via Karpathos, Symi, Rhodes and Cyprus.

Previously he led tours for The Traveller and participated in a gulet cruise for Westminster Classic Tours. With Actors of Dionysus, he sailed six times with Swan Hellenic, directing performances in classical theatres in Turkey and Albania.

In 2021 David joined Noble Caledonia for the first time to lecture on a crcircumnavigation of Sicily. Since then he has joined them regularly, and in 2026, 2027 and 2028 he will sail to Malta, Sicily, Italy, Albania, Greece, Tunisia, Sardinia, Spain and Algeria.
